nest boxes and roosting

I am new to being a chicken mamma and I have questions about roosting and nest boxes. Will my girls not use the nest boxes for laying if they have been roosting in them? Please help me to be able to explain this to my DH so he doesn't think I am absolutly nuts!

If they roost in the nest boxes. The nest boxes will be full of poop. They digest alot while they are roosting. Then your eggs will be soiled.....joe

Exactly. They may lay in the nest boxes still, but they will also be pooping in them. The best thing to do is keep them out of the nest boxes until they are close to laying age. Then the boxes are just somewhere to lay eggs and not somewhere to sleep.
