nest boxes??

should they have a ramp up to them? How high should they be? should they be on the oppisite wall of the roosts? could i put them over the hen door?

No Ramp needed, chickens are excellent jumpers

Anywere from on the ground to just lower then your roost.

They should be in a dark area in the coop, they like privacy

Not sure about the hen door, Never know they might like it there..

There is a picture of my nest boxes on the site below. We put a little step in front of ours where they jump up then step into the boxes (2 for six hens). They are about 24" off the ground, opposite the door. Good luck!

Our lowest nest box is about 18" off the ground, the next one right above it. We have standard and larger breed chickens (see signature for breeds) The girls just jump up to their preferred box of the day! We do have a little landing bar in front of box. We painted ours with leftover dark colored paint for that dark, cozy feeling. Hope this helps.

Just remember to have your roost higher than your highest nest box. You don't want your hens deciding to roost in the nest box...messy eggs result:/
