I have 11 chickens 2 ducks, 9 of my chickens should be laying eggs sometime around this month I believe, When do they actually start laying, and what do I need for the nest box's I have 3 area's for them to lay eggs, 2 of my chickens still have a good while to go, along with my ducks where do the ducks lay eggs?? And what do I feed the chickens when they began laying eggs??

Most people just feed layer feed when chickens start laying, which has the calcium they need for eggshell hardness.

I don't know a thing about ducks. You might do better asking in the ducks forum.

My duck usually just dug a hole in the dirt and layed there eggs in that. They don't seem to like laying anywhere else. That may just have been mine though...

I use layers mash, layers pellets, corn and grit for my chickens food, in the nesting box I put wood shavings where they sleep, where they lay eggs, i put sawdust down first, then straw, for them to make a nest - the same for the ducks, my sisters ducks used to lay eggs in the nest like the chickens, You can get similar food for ducks,( but like chickens they like grass), and some sort of pond.....for the ducks - regards Marianne.

I've been feeding all my birds game bird feed 2 of my pullets are about .. 4 months same with ducks can they eat the layer feed too? and thank for all the answers. Also what size does the nesting box need to be? and when should I be expecting eggs from my girls?
