we are building a new coop and was wondering when you build your nest boxes so u can get them from the outside how do u keep the rain from going into the nest?

I have a small coop, with a pointed roof so the rain can just run right off. There are also shingles on the roof, and top of the egg box, which is also slightly slanted. There should be a top on the egg box, so a hen can feel comfortable. My egg boxes open from behind, not on top, so even if its pouring down rain, no water will get in.

I can get to my nest boxes from the top. I added a rain diverter above the hatch I put in. haven't opened yet since we haven't got much rain this year. Its supposed to rain here this weekend i'll open it up to see what happens.

it doesn't leak at all though.

Small coops. If it is raining heavy...... ::drumroll:: take an umbrella!

With large walk-in coops, you can collect eggs from the inside during stormy weather.

where did you get the idea? The coop fourms here, or your own idea?
