My RIR's are about 18-19 weeks old now but have not been sleeping in their house, which contains the nesting boxes. They have been sleeping on the roof of their house for several weeks now, I just figure it is the extreme heat wave we are having.

I lifted the roof and it looked like one of them has been shuffling the shavings around. Have no idea when as I have not seen any of them going or coming from the house.
Well, I smoothed it all back over to see if it happened again and sure enough within 30 minutes, the bowl has been scratched in the middle of the nesting box and I still didn't see any of the 4 coming or going from the house. None of them are sitting in there.

I was told not to worry about them sleeping on the roof but I was worried about where the eggs would be laid and now I think I know.
Does anyone know how much longer the wait? This will be my first egg. Their crowns have really reddened over the last week.
Thanks for all the information I gather from this forum.

18-19 weeks old, not long now, just another week or two on average for RIRS. Try not to drive yourself crazy waiting.
