Ok so i have 3 pullets and after seeing everyone elses nestboxes im afraid mine are not good! All the ones i see have a back, top, and sides. Mine are just have little sides. Kinda like cubbies. here is a pic
The plywood here is just so they dont sleep in them. but they just sleep on the plywood now

Are these bad or am i just working myself up for no reason??

As long as the chickens lay in them I'd say you're good! If they don't lay in them, you could try adding more sides to make it darker, as I heard the hens like to lay where it is a bit darker.

The only thing is that those aren't very dark....some chickens like the nest boxes dark.

But I also had a nest box which was just an open box nailed to the wall...so just like what you have, but just one nest and a little deeper. I had a few of my bantams think that nest box was the absolute best.

I like variety. Try some of one kind and some of another kind.

Mine enjoy the nest boxes in the dark area of the coop. I think they appreciate a private closed in nesting box the most. I would add side and top boards to your nest boxes.

The sometimes lay in the 4 nest boxes shown to the left but they prefer the 4 nest boxes to the right beyond the wall in the dark area.

I am super tempted by the community nest boxes, which would be a top to make it darker, but no dividers.

Then again, if most of the eggs that are being laid, are laid in your open shelf nests, there is no reason to change anything.

I dunno.....don't see why you can't wait until after they start laying, and then if you have a problem, decide to change it.

If you wanted to change it now, under the idea that the majority of hens like darker nest boxes....then maybe put a top on the longer, and lower run of nests.
