Got my first egg 7 days ago (and 1 egg a day since from my Power Leghorn). Problem is the coop expansion isn't done and there's really not room for proper nesting boxes in the finished coop.

I put an empty kitty litter box in the coop but no one seems to think that's inviting. Then I tried an egg crate. My leghorn continues to lay under the feeder and everyone else who is gearing up to lay is checking out any other spot besides my two bad nesting box examples. Yes, I have fake eggs in them.

So today I decided to use every ounce of creativity I have (very little) and fashion a better, safer box.

Apparently it's interspecially inviting.

Now I'm going to have to build one for the cat.

Actually, the animal pictured is a copious layer of large, brown eggs. At least she always lays them in her nesting box.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Anyway, I made 2 of these nesting boxes out of corrugated cardboard/sewn on handkerchief but with different designs, 2 regular open top baskets and a weird popcorn tin nest box. I placed all of these on the floor of the unfinished coop addition with a fake egg in each so hopefully one of them is good enough for my girl(s) to lay in.

And in case you were wondering only the originally posted designed passed Sophie Anna's thorough inspection.
