Nesting box behavior

My chickens keep kicking the straw out of the nesting boxes. How can I stop this? It's really annoying, lol.

Have you tried wood chips? Could the straw be making them hot and they're trying to get on the cool surface?

They are most likely trying to make a nest. Can you put a board in front of the best box to keep it from falling out?

I have wood chips in the bottom of the hen house, guess I'll give it a try in the nesting boxes too. Thanks.

Mine will sometimes scratch through the woodchips to get to the wood at the bottom. I'm in Louisiana and it's HOT here so I think it's a little more comfortable for them. They don't / can't scratch it all out so it works well for my situation. Best of luck!!!

Pic of your nest boxes would be helpful. Most likely they need a taller lip on the front of the box.
