What size should I make each individual box? Most likely I will be getting full size rhode island reds if it matters.

My Hen boxes are 11/2 feet long, 1 foot wide, & 6 inches deep. Any size will do though ,they aren't real picky where they lay. A bucket full of hay will do. Some of mine lay in the horses manger.

Ok thanks! Does it matter if there not high off the ground? I would imagine they would feel more secure laying higher up but what do i know

My nest boxes are around 15x15in and 18inches high. They are doing great for my birds. The boxes are 18 inches off the floor.

Yes, It's best to raise them a foot or two off the ground, but they don't HAVE to be. Just make sure your roosts are higher or they might roost in the nests. They can create quite a mess in there overnight.
