nesting box question?

We are getting our 5 RIR late next week and I am putting the finishing touches on the coop. I am getting the nesting boxes ready and I put the large pine shavings in the boxes, is this ok?

shavings, straw, hay, shredded paper all work great in nest box.

I have pine under the roosts, but for some reason mine like hay in their nest boxes. I wish they liked the pine.

Mine like hay in the nest boxes but I use pine shavings everywhere else. Their favorite is alfalfa, thank-you-very-much. Lol
