Hi,
I have an O Shamo hen sitting on 5 eggs. I suspect 4 will hatch...the 5th one just showed up and is a week out of sync so don't know what happens to that.
I am 99% sure this hen has hatched before. The flock was given to me month and a half ago but prior to that the same couple gave me a single pullet and I believe the chic was hatched from this hen. This is my only broody hen and she is aggressive and I am sure she is or will be a good mama.
My nesting boxes are small. All the hens fit in them fine with room to turn around and sit but I have been thinking about once Slim Sue hatches out her babies. Do nesting boxes need to be larger for babies chic??? Don't want her to accidently suffocate one. Also the boxes are up off the ground.
So, what do I do? Do I move her into a larger area? I have an area for her and babies to stay....If so when do I move her and babies? Once they hatch or before. Also I am assuming if I need to move her I need to put her closer to the ground....right? OR...leave her be???
First time for me so somebody please help!
Thanks so much
