I am in the process of building my coop. It is about 5' by 4' and 6'tall. I am going to attach the boxes on the outside for easy access.

Does the roof need to be slanted if they can't get on top of it?
Also, how high should they be off the ground of the coop?

Thanks

I would think you need to slant the roof so rain and/or snow depending upon where you live wont settle on top and eventually get inside.

Hi, mine are about 3' off the ground and they hang on the outside. I made that mistake, not slanting the tops of the nest boxes. Needless to say, the next nice day after a hard rain I was out there fixing that. Every box filled with water because of the tops on them.

As already said I would tilt the roof for drainage. I have my nests at 2 feet off the ground. Just make sure the roosts are higher than your nests.
