I took a kitchen cabinet and took the doors off, cut a hole in the back and replaced one door for access to the eggs, should the front where the chickens enter be covered or no? thanks

Hi, I did the same thing- only with an old wooden chest. I divided the inside into individual nesting areas. At first, I left the front on the chest, and thought I would just lift it up for access. They didn't really like that- so I went ahead and took that off- leaving the front open. I did put a board along the bottom edge, just to keep the shavings in and the eggs from rolling out...Good luck!

I did the same thing with a strip of wood across the front. My hens are real funny about anthing completely blocking their view.
