nesting box

I guess this is a good place to ask this question? What do most use in their nest boxes besides straw. I saw on youtube where someone was using artificial turf. I guess straw is OK but you have to buy so much of it and I only have 4 chicks and two boxes.

I use pine straw or shavings. I have used leaves from my back yard. They seem to like the shavings better. I do have some hens that lay there eggs after they have cleaned out the nest box. I have to gather eggs from them several times a day to keep them from getting broke.
