Nesting boxes

Our chickens have Been laying for almost two months now. We have eight nesting boxes that are more than sufficient for our 9 hens (a bit excessive), even though they have more than they need the girls seem to have chosen to only use two of the eight boxes which are side by side and they will actually line up every morning for their turn even when they are clearly feeling the urge to lay very soon.

Why are they doing this?
Is there anything I can do?
Is it a problem?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Fairly common, we have 6 hens, 3 nesting boxes. The right box is used the most by our girls.

You could take 5 boxes out...

3 is plenty for 9 girls.

I have 17 hens and they use 2 of 8 nesting boxes...sometimes I find 2 stuffed into the same box.

I've left the fake eggs and or golf balls in all the nests to 'spread the love', sometimes it works other times it doesn't seem to matter.
I do think that if the favorite nests are in use they will use a nest with a fake egg in in rather than wait.
