Nesting boxes

My chickens should start laying in the next 2-3 months. What would you suggest for nesting boxes? Preferably something I can make.

anything that is a box shaped and big enough for your girls. You can literally use anything-recycle materials if you want/can. Generally I think 12x12 inches is an easy specification, but can do 14x14 or 16x16 if you have any larger breeds.

If you do a search there is a thread somewhere where dozens of people have posted their nest boxes and ideas. I think it is in the Coop section. People use discarded furniture, 5 Gallon buckets in the side, etc, etc. We built ours out of scraps of wood we had laying around, but I actually calculated what would be needed and wrote steps to build it if you were buying all the materials. Thought about submitting it as an article but don't have any good pics to include of the steps and completed project. Here is a picture of how ours turned out.
