Nesting Boxes

I did this ^^^^ So far working out great!!
I opened mine yesterday and it seemed to go off without a hitch lol. They are about 15 weeks now. When I give them hostas they run over and jump all over me. It’s fricken wild. Everytime I walk over in the morning now to say good morning they are sitting waiting for me to give them some.

This^^^

Some of us never use layer feed.
I've fed 20% all flock type of feed with a separate container of oyster shell for the active layers, has worked well for 10 years now.
What’s the benefit behind doing it that way though? Or is it just a preference?

Funny you should mention this...My wife had a big piece of old styrofoam insulation down under her mulch and the ding dongs found it. It was truly like crack!! LOL I took it up and they came back for a couple of days just to make sure it didn't somehow return. LOL
I had one of those big thick foam coolers people get steaks delivered in, I was going turn it into an incubator. They found it and ate the corners out!

Layer feed is minimal nutrition....
so IMO it's for better overall nutrition, especially when giving scratch or other 'treats'.
I've always had chicks and males in the flock, the extra calcium is not good for them.
Layers over ~14 months old don't lay all year, they don't need the extra calcium and the extra protein helps them all grow new feather when molting.
