So I built a nice nesting box for the girls yesterday. I only built a 2 hole box. Do you think this will be enough for 12 hens? Tell me about your personal experiences. Thanks

since you've already built them, I'ld wait and see. Usually would like to see 3-4 boxes for 12, but, usually that size group uses only one or two anyway!. You can add later.

I have 13 hens and 4 nests. Once a week or so, I find an egg layed on the floor of the coop, as if someone were waiting in line and then couldn't wait anymore.

My nests are 5 gallon buckets in a frame with shavings in them.

Oh, yeah. The slanted top on the nest rectangle is to keep the poopers off.

Well...I have 7 boxes for 39 pullets. I know, not enough but I am getting 24-29 eggs a day so those boxes are staying BUSY! I also am finding an egg or two on the floor. I want to add one additional box but it's hard to get motivated in this heat. I tried adding a clean kitty litter pan with shavings as an extra nest on the floor and they hated that!

I'll add this as an FYI....my pullets prefer the boxes with the higher bottom "lip" and so do I because you can get the shavings deeper for less egg injury.

thanks for the details. I am in the process of building my boxes and I think I will try the 6" front lip.
