nesting boxes?

how many nesting boxes would I need for 7 (1 rooster so 6 hens) chickens? how could I make them?

The rule of thumb seems to be one for every 4-5 hens, and then they all use the same one anyway, for some reason that only hens know.

My one group of 12 have 4 nests and they only use two that are their favorite...You can make a nest box out of alot of things...some use cat litter box with the lids...,I have some wooden ones we made and also plastic storage bins that they love...plastic buckets can be made into nest boxes with a lip on them...milk crates...use your imagination...
