nesting boxes

What is the amount of nesting boxes I need per hen ? Ihave 8 egg layers and 5 bantam hens. I thought I saw that you don't have to have one for each hen . Is one nesting box for every 2 hens ok. thank you for your help.

I have 20 chickens and they have 14 nesting boxes and use only 4 of them. I guess they have a real liking to just that one area. go figure lol

Yes, I've read that 1 nesting box for every 3-4 birds is sufficient. HTH

thank u . DH is doing the work did't want to make him do more then he needed to do. i guss we will try to go with 6 or 8 i will have to see how much room it leaves. the coops 8 x12 and i was told that that size is good . it just fiting everything in it. thak you again wendy
