Nesting materials

Going to get my first eggs in a month... Wanted to start thinking about nesting boxes... What type of materials for the nest do you recommend and which ones should I avoid?

I use cat litter boxes that have covers I also found these nice black recycle bins at wal-mart that have lids. I use straw inside of them
