I am wondering what you are all using for a netting to go over your chicken runs? I am torn between cloth and wire. If you could please insite me on which is the best and what I could use and where to buy it that would be awesome. Thanks.

I've got the plastic netting over mine, but it dry rots pretty fast. It's a cheep quick fix. If you've got the money, use wire, it's the more permanent solution.

Wire mesh and shade cloth - the only reason I use both is because the wire was already there - I didn't remove it because it was good support for the shade cloth - which I LOVE - it stands up to Rocky Mountain WInters and high altitude sun incredibly, and hides the girls from raptors -

Shade cloth came from a garden center - I'm sure you could buy it from Home Depot too

I was recommended this type of Aviary netting:

I ordered the welded wire from this site:

http://www.louispage.com/welded-wire-mesh/vinyl-coated/vinyl-coated-19-gauge/

This is the old version of their website with prices:
http://www.wirefenceonline.com/welded/vc

I went with 19 gauge 1/2" x 1/2"

Bear in mind that my supplies are for a duck coop.

With chickens I have seen much cheaper designs and materials posted here, but if it was me, I'd still make it with the same material above. That's just me.

edit: Yes, Home Depot and Lowes sell hardware cloth, welded wire, and some nettings (most netting i saw was plastic)

The downside is they don't sell large rolls by me. I think 2-3 feet was the largest they had, when i needed 4 feet.
