Okay so I think I posted this in the wrong place so I'm going to post it in here I apologize if it comes up twice cuz it's kind of long. I have two 5 year old black australarp roosters that are brothers that have completely different personalities one is super nice and has always been like the head rooster and the other one is evil and likes to attack me. About a year ago the mean one suddenly developed a problem with his back part of his body like he seemed like he had an injury and could not walk easily and I had to put him in a cage and it took quite a long time to nurse him back to health I didn't know what was wrong with him but the most confusing thing was his personality changed completely he became very sweet and nice he when he was finally back outside he followed me around and ate out of my hand he wanted me to hold him he was like my best friend it was so strange then he covered completely finally and turned back into his terrible mean self times 10 he attacked me again today but I just thought the personality change was very surprising so the brother the nice one a couple of weeks ago I found him laying down and he seemed Dazed and Confused both his eyes were swollen shut I thought he had got attacked by something but that doesn't seem to be the case. I cleaned his eyes I used a spray for them and they seemed fine in a couple of days and when I let him back out of the cage he was getting bullied he didn't know how to act he was not able to walk anywhere or go anywhere he was very confused. So I put him back up. I've been monitoring him closely and now he's not eating or drinking he doesn't seem to know how he seems very confused about walking he doesn't do it very much and he doesn't seem to understand how to get the food and water he dismisses it and doesn't seem interested in the water at all actually. The strange thing is is he also has a personality change. He has become even nicer than he was which is hard to believe cuz he was very sweet he is singing all the time and talking and clocking to me and I don't understand what is happening I don't feel like I can nurse him back to health the way I did with a brother because he is not responding to anything. How can two brothers five years old have neurological problems both that affect their personalities that have no similarity in symptoms? I'm very confused I don't think this is merricks disease cause I've seen that before and in any chickens I've seen that with they've been depressed lethargic they've had the paralysis I know the basic symptoms of that and I just don't see that with either one of these guys. Does anybody have a suggestion of what this could be or how I could help this one that I have in the house right now that doesn't seem to know how to even feed himself I'm completely at a loss I've had chicken for years and I don't understand what's going on

I have a similar problem with my 7 year old rooster. It started about 3 weeks ago. I found him in my duck coop kind of laying on his side. I finally coaxed him out and he stumble walked to his coop like he was drunk. He was worse the next day, could barely stand, and was sleeping in the nesting box instead of his roost. After about 5 days I brought him into the house and gave him molasses water but had to dip his beak in to get him started, then he drank like he was really thirsty. I’ve been off work this week and brought him up to the cottage with me, so I’ve been spending a lot of time with him and have able to observe his behaviour. I think he’s either had a stroke or some kind of brain damage and is also possibly blind??? He pecks at the air and I have to move his plate of food and water to him and the next day it’s like ground hog day all over again! I have to reorient him to his surroundings and help him find his food and water. I have given him 3 salt water baths to get rid of lice (he was infested, likely because he was sleeping on the floor of his coop for a week) and blow his feather dry with a hairdryer. He is stronger - as in, I don’t think he’s actively dying anymore, but something is definitely wrong neurologically. I should also mention that he was a MEAN rooster before, even our mail carrier was terrified of him. Now he is a shadow of his former self.
