Chicks are hatching under my broody. So far, I have 6 healthy peeps. I went to check this AM and there was a little chipmunk guy almost out of his shell. He seemed weak and dried out, but finally managed to push out. One of his legs seems not to work, he is mostly on his back and peeping with distress. He does not seem to want or be able to go under his momma, and she is not covering him. Seems like he might be a goner. Let nature take it's course? Cull? I am sad.
There were 10 fertile eggs to start. So far seven have hatched, starting on Saturday AM, so it has been almost 48 hours since the hatch began. I hear peeping from two of the remaining eggs, but no pips. Are they likely to hatch? Since they were still peeping, I left them under mom. I took the quiet egg out.
