It was a gorgeous bluebird day in our area - nearly 50 degrees and not a cloud in the sky, a real treat for us in February. Well, I decided to open up the run and let the chickens out for a bit.

My husband accidentally spooked one of the more flighty hens and she ended up on top of the coop....ok, no biggie. He decides to try to get her down instead of just letting her do her thing, and she took off, somehow flying about 12 feet up into a birch tree! I just had to laugh.

It took some creative and gentle herding with a roof rake, but we got her to come down and link back up with the flock. She complained the whole time 😂. Never a dull day, indeed!

I never understood that flighty meant fly 🤦‍♀️ I thought it meant theyran away from you.

Why didn’t you just leave her up on the tree? Is that bad? I never knew how entertaining chickens would be.

She must have thought the view was better up there  Nice picture!

And people don't think chickens can fly. :gig

I take it to mean a nervous chicken that spooks easily. But, this one is not a bad flier at all! I think because she is relatively petite. My orpingtons (which are so sweet they wouldn't run from us anyway) definitely couldn't have pulled this off lol.

ETA: I wanted to leave her there, she was in view of the coop and probably would have gone back when she was ready. My husband wanted to get her down, though! That's how she ended up in the tree in the first place 🤦‍♀️🤣
