Never heard a hen crow until today!!!!

This morning my hubby went outside came in and said one of the blondes (thats what he calls our buffs) is crowing!! I go out there and of course shes just staring at me-no sound at all. Bout 2 hours later I go out on the back deck and hear some crowing-now my neighbor down the way has a ro

oster-but hes pretty far away I look towards the coop and see her on her outside perch and shes crowing away!!!!! I couldn't beleive it!! Shes a little over 3 yrs. old and if we got any roosters we didnt keep them so they really havent been around any--is this really showing her dominence and has anyone had the same experience?? Thanks for all your input!!!

I read that if a flock of hens does not have a rooster, the head hen will sometimes take up the rooster's role. That includes crowing, and well, everything else that a rooster does. You may be in for some interesting 'chicken TV' pretty soon!
