well like so many others on here i had a predator get my birds, i finally thought my coop was safe enough to turn my RIR youg-ins loose , first night no problem, 2nd night bingo, it was a slaughter, i never thought you could get that attached to a frickin chicken, but we all were, my 7 yr old Grandson was the one to find them , it torn him up, should have known something was up at 3;30 am my ducks were raising cain, then stopped as quik as they started, well i have something for the predator when it decides it want desert:

Sorry for your loss and I really hope your grandson is ok. It's never easy losing a pet, even if it's a chicken, I hope you get the predator!

First off, so sorry about your loss and for your grandson to have to be the one to find the birds.

I use chicken wire and have electric wire going around the outside of my coop, run and their yard. I put the electric wire up initially because I believe it was a dog by the tracks, dug under my fence and killed one of my hens. One night I was outside on my back patio which faces my chickens. I heard a really good "OUCH" scream like sound. Something came into contact with the electric wire. It's 6000 volts. I have gotten quite shocked by it myself so I imagine an animal who weighs far less than I really gets a good zap. I doubt it will be back. Some of these pictures are older pictures.

ya know i have almost everything i need to put some juice around my coops and run, thought i had the bases covered with me burying chicken wire around the perimeter of the coop , will try and do more to prevent this again
