TinyLittleFarm, in a climate like yours, I'd say deep bedding like hay or straw will go a long way toward keeping the birds warm. Your Brahmas will do well as well as the EEs due to their small pea combs, plus the feathered legs on the Brahma. Not sure about Silkies, but with proper bedding, you really shouldn't need heat. Some use the big black rubber livestock bowls for water then flex and dump out the frozen water and refill every day. Be sure to keep ventilation open some, even in the coldest weather, so you don't get dampness inside from their respiration and poop. I hope this helps.
