Why do my chicks not go in their coop? We found them on the roof the other day, today they were on another high roof.
This is our 3 rd flock but not known behaviour like this! Other nights 2 are in the coop on the floor and 2 near the entrance. In most cases they don't seem to like going in their coop. We have picked them up and put them in and they come straight out again!

They are in a secure large run. They were put into coop at 4-5 weeks.
Thanks
Jan

I always have the same troubles with every group, they like staying out late than won't go in without urging. They eventually go in by themselves. I haven't found anything that hurries the process.

When we started our chickens I. The coop we did what my aunt (she had 500 chickens on her farm) always did; for the first 24 hours they were confined to the coop (their food/water was inside). After that the door was open and they were allowed to exit or stay inside as they wished. Once all the birds daily left the coop for the run, their food/water was moved outside and they would be out all day but go back into the coop at sundown. If the weather is really hot they sometimes hang out in the run a bit later but, as a rule, they all go in by about 10 pm if not sooner.
