I bought 2 hens from a man at a flea market. they were all shove in the same cage and i wanted to save all them but didnt have enough money..anyways...i also have 14 pullets...the same evening i found one egg. i went out several times today and its now 800 in the evening and i have not found any eggs at all today! are they just adjusting to their finally new place? they have plenty of room in the yard and in the building..i feel really bad for them they had to be stressed! also one of the hens(maddie) has a sprained leg but still gets around greatly with no problem. she even runs on it...i find her limping or holding it up sometimes but for the most part shes fine and in and out all day eatting and drinking. However...the other hen(maybel) looks well and has bright eyes but dosent come out much..only to eat and drink then goes back inside to either sit or stand on the cement floor or she goes back into her nest..i dont know who laied the egg..im assuming Maddie..anyone got any hints about why they didnt lay any eggs today..should i just give them a few days or R & R??

oh good ok thanks...im soo worried about her meaning maybel..shes soo distant ...she looks depressed...shes a nice big hen though..hey also she has like no toe nails!!!!!!!! whats up with that?

one of the first questions i ever asked on this site was about my new hens laying. i got the response....they need to adjust and you know what just a few days later they started laying. so just let them adjust and you will have some good ole eggs in no time.

Mine took awhile before they laid after getting them. It's the stress of moving to a whole new place. They will settle in fine. Give them time and love.

I agree with ChickenCat. As for the toenails, I don't know. Have you checked her feet or legs for parasites or disease? Or does it look like she was born without them? I would watch her carefully. Did you quarentine her from your flock before introduction? As for being depressed, she might be a little scared of her new surroundings, she will get used to things.

Oh two of my hens had a few missing nails when i got them. They had been with regular sized hens and roosters. Looked like they were just existing where they were-glad I can spoil them now, with me. The missing nails don't affect them any. They are happy little bantams.

I have a couple of chicks that I got that have missing toe nails too. I'm not sure if they were born that way or if they got ripped off when they were real young. Either way it has no affect on them.

I checked out her legs and feet as close as i could get! LOL and they look good...no nastyness if i may say and like i said she looks very healthy..i was just worried also it looks like they have been cut off or shaved down..idk strange..i havent even tried to pick them up or bother them...i just go out and feed them and spend time talking to them. I didnt quartine them gosh darnit i probably should have..i didnt know!! gosh i hope nothing bad happens! thanks everyone for sharing ur info it really helps and makes me feel better.
