I am new and nervous!!! We have to go against deed restrictions to get our chickens (still haven't gotten em yet) we are getting our neighbors to agree first cause then we figure the neighborhood won't care... That's not the only reason I'm nervous, I have wanted chickens for 17 years and now that its a reality, I'm getting cold feet!!! Can anybody give me some clarity???

! Pleased you joined us! Don't worry - it's just 1st flock jitters. If you've done your homework, you will be fine. If you haven't, BYC can get you up to speed! All chickens really need is the proper food, water, and a warm place to hang out. If you can get started with that you will have plenty of time to study up on the rest. Good luck to you and have fun!

Redsox put it well - no need to be nervous. I constantly read books and magazines to learn more about this great hobby. I am new to BYC and I am quickly recognizing what a great resource it is. I am sure you can get the support you need from BYC for any questions you have along the way. Also, pick up a few good books and magazines for resources. I really like the book "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens". Good luck and enjoy...

Yes,this site was a big help when I got mine in 2009.Hope things work out with being illegal. I think that would stress me more than caring for the chickens. The chickens are going to be fun.Enjoy!

I used to feel that way when I was getting a new puppy. Adopting was such a big responsibility - as soon as I picked him up, I was over the jitters.
