Hello everyone! My names Jenny and I have 4 kids who recently fell in love with chickens!!we homeschool and are working on trying to convince my husband that getting 4 baby chicks would be a good idea :) since the kids would be home to help take care of the chickens :)
If anyone knows how to get just 4 baby chicks please let me know- online the lowest minimum I can find is 10 chicks.
I’ve been looking at coops online- how much would you think would be reasonable?
Thanks everyone!!

Hi Jenny, thanks for joining us!

You could check on your state thread to see if anyone in your general area has chicks (the state links are at the bottom of this post). Some farm stores will sell as few as 4, have you checked with a local one to see if they still have some (like TSC)? And there are some online hatcheries that will ship fewer numbers of chicks, like mypetchicken.com

Best of luck finding the flock you want!

Hello Jenny, welcome to this wonderful site. I got just two ducklings from Metzer Farms in California. They arrived to Ohio just fine a couple of years ago and are still doing great. I believe you can get as few as you want, you just have to pay a larger shipping fee. Good luck on getting yours.

Jenny, before you get chickens, I'd like to advise you that those prefab coops are always too small for the amount of chickens they claim to house. They aren't secure from predators, and they never have enough ventilation. It's really sad when people buy them, and then realize they cannot house their new, and much loved flock in them.
