Jenny first welcome here. Next lots of folks here have gotten sheds or buildings they used as coop off of sites such as Craig list etc. Learn all about how to make a coop secure from predators THEN get your chicks. Most farm stores have chicks come fall ( which is just around the corner) and by then you and kiddos will know all about coops, runs, how to set up a brooder for babies etc. ,and how to care for chickens. I think it is a great idea for kiddos to learn about and care for chickens plus they can handle chickens easier than other livestock. It's all great knowledge on where our food comes from and being a responsible caretaker on and on. (note the sale tactic to use on hubby :plbb :thumbsup ) tee hee hee good luck. Kids can even do fundraiser for supplies for them. We have a great place to learn if you get to icon above 4th in from left. Looks like a dogeared page
