Most of the time a Broody hen has to sit on them or you have to put the eggs in an incubator but under the right circumstances a chick could develope in a fertilized egg and you could crack it into a skillet do a search on here there was a little girl that did it and was traumatized and I know I would feel guilty eating a fertilized egg so I just keep hens.

If you gather eggs every day, you WILL NOT crack an egg into a skillet and get a chick come out. It takes much longer than that for the chick to form.

thanks everyone your lots of help...another question before i go...i'm using ceder shavings is that ok? i havent been to town yet and thats the only thing they had in my little town i live in so should i change to something different or do you think its fine? they dont seem to be eating it or anything

I would take the cedar out. The problem is the essential oils from the cedar, that they breathe. It's not good for them. They can be on just the paper towels, until you can get something else for them.

I would be nervous about using cedar shavings, maybe you should change to pine shavings.
Thought I read somewhere cedar was no good for chicks..
