This site has proven very helpful as I begin this journey of raising chickens. I just bought 12 sex linked chickens today all hens. And was curious how soon I should let them venture outside? Still a little cold spells coming in and out of the state but how long should I keep them in the brooder?

from California! How old are your chicks? When mine are about a month old give or take I start bringing them outside supervised in a wire pen for a few hours a day when it's sunny outside making sure they have food, water and a source of shade of course. They will let you know when they are ready to go inside by peeping loudly! They can go outside full time when fully feathered at around 8 weeks.

Thank you. My guess is that they are a little over 3 weeks old.
