I have a Muscovy whose eggs started hatching today. She laid them in the lower part (on the ground) inside my Catabwa Chicken coop. Some of my hens roost in the upper part at night and use the nesting boxes during the day. Should I close the Muscovy in and expect the chickens to lay and roost elsewhere? We do have a barn and another coop that the other hens go in at night. I'm thinking I'll need to put a small water supply in with the new mama and some feed of course. My concern is if I leave it open to the hens they may hurt the ducklings or perhaps upset the mama too much. Any advice is appreciated!

Congrats on the babies!

I would suggestion locking the babies and mother in a pen or in the coop a few days at least, as they may be bullied or may get trapped somewhere if they leave the pen. Also, other chickens may eat all their food and not let them get any. This gives them a chance to strengthen.

Best of luck!
