So out of 26 eggs and all the temperature problems, 6 eggs hatched. Of the 6, three had no problems, the other 3 are spraddle leg. Tried hobbling them with bandaids but it didn't work. I have now lost all 3 of those. I am wondering what caused it? They weren't all out of any specific breed and the good leg ones were interspersed with the bad leg ones during hatching. The hatch was spread out over 8 days so I had to open the incubator a couple times but I got good leg ones each time. I am soo confused.

So there was no common parent to the spraddle legged ones? Sometimes a lengthened hatch can cause it- if they took too long to hatch for one reason or another. If there was temperature issues, that could impact hatch time.

Yes, hatch time was about 4 days longer then expected, there was not a parent common to them, 6 different hens 2 different roos, 1 roo with each set of 3 hens, eggs that hatched the spraddled ones were from both groups.

With such a bad hatch rate, sounds like the temps or humidity weren't right throughout the incubation causing the defects. Those things happen though. Just because some came out fine, that doesn't mean that the less than perfect incubation couldn't affect some different than others. My first attempt at hatching eggs, i set 26 eggs and hatched 23 of them. a couple ended up with curled toes but otherwise perfectly healthy. my second hatch, i set 10 eggs and only 4 hatched but all had no problems at all. If you do another hatch, try to perfect the incubation and maybe you will see better results. If not, it could be the parents.
