Hello,
I am new to chicken keeping. We have 5, 10 1/2 week old OEGB and we just picked up 18 new babies at the hatchery on Wednesday. On of the silkie babies (a small black one) has a bad eye. We noticed it yesterday. I though it might have gotten pecked? I have been gently cleaning around the eye with sterile saline and applying antibiotoc ointment to the eye. Somtimes it seems better then the next time it will be really full of goop. Am I doing the right thing? Is there somthing else that I should/should'nt be doing? We were so excited to get the new babies especially the silkies...now one is injury/sick. I just want to be sure that we are doing everything we need to for this baby. Thank you for your advice. It makes me feel better to know that I can come here for help and advice for people that know so much more than I do. Thank you.

There are many different reasons this can happen and I would recommend taking her to an avian or exotic veterinarian to help her get better.
Thank you so much for your are and concern for this little silky and I'm sure it appreciates your kind heart more than you could ever imagine!
Remember the power of prayer to Jesus!
God Bless!!!!!!!!!

You are doing the right things, but make sure to clean the eye and apply the ointment twice a day. Vetericyn eye gel or Terramycin Eye Ointment from a farm store are also good to use.
