Hi everyone. I'm new to BYC and also new to raising chickens. I haven't even started my flock. Still in the process of building my coop because I just bought my house. My parents raised chickens for 12 years before they stopped and now that I started my own family I want to try my hand at chickens. I love reading all the forums they've been very helpful in deciding what chickens to start with I'm thinking either buff Orpington or barred rocks and some araucana for layers and Cornish cross for my meat. I will be raising both meat and layer hens. And eventually want to expand to raising pheasant and quail. Like I said I'm still in the beginning process as in building my coops. They will be the Taj Mahal of chicken and pheasant coops by the time I'm done.
 
Welcome , Backyard chickens has threads on meat birds. For pheasants, etc try "Other Backyard Poultry" forum, above. The Learning Center is a great read as well.
