Hi everyone. I'm in Wake Forest, NC and am new to raising chickens for eggs. My hens have been laying for about a month now, and I haven't had any problems finding customers for the eggs.

I wanted to do something special with my "egg money" that would promote sustainability and let my hens "work for justice" so I started a foundation on giveback.org that enables me to donate my egg profits to Heifer International, which in turn donates flocks of chickens to poor families around the world to provide them with food and access to eggs which they can then sell for extra money.

If you're interested in having your chickens work for justice, please feel free to check out my foundation at https://www.giveback.org/cause/31388/Local-Yolkls-Give-Back.aspx or check out Heifer International itself. I'm really excited about this opportunity to give back, and I hope you'll consider doing something similar! All donations of egg proceeds are tax deductible, by the way!

Has anyone else used their egg money "for good"?

Good on you for "giving something back". I just use my hens to educate people and convert them to free range practices.

I am familiar with the organization and it’s very worthy indeed. My son was in Ethiopia with Peace Corps and saw firsthand the need for agricultural and livestock help such as this. I’m excited that you are in with Wake Forest also, I would love to go for coffee and just talk chickens.
