Hi all,

My second shipment of eggs from Cynthia (Speckled hen) came today and they are resting before going in tonight (well tomorrow morning as I probably wont get home from the kennel until after 1am

Congrats Miss Prissy. Cynthia if you read this are your SLW with your Barred rooster? If so what kind of chicks do you think one would get? Could be really cool! By the way can you tell I am hooked on mixed breeds at the moment.LOL

Yes, Adam, my three SLWs are in with Hawkeye, but the catch is that none of their eggs appear to be fertile. Let's say they are not Hawkeye's favs due to their unwelcoming attitude when he first got here. He had to put all three in their places and seems to have held a grudge ever since, LOL. I thought that I saw one of Violet's eggs fertile one time, but someone had a couple and they never hatched so I'm not entirely sure if they were really fertile or not now. Hawkeye isn't exactly oversexed. If I want definitely fertile eggs from all of my laying flock besides Lexie, I may have to raise one of his sons as a back up, LOL.
EDITED TO ADD: The bad thing about having a Barred roo is that he gives barring to all of his offspring and they just all have barring, male and female, if you know what I'm saying. Some will get red/gold in their hackles, etc, but they will all be barred in some form, if I understand what genetics people have told me.

Some of my silkies came from a pen where they were working on the cuckoo color and although they are black or blue, the males seem to all have the red/gold or white in the hackles. I think Jaynie said it was because of the cuckoo breeding. Very interesting.
