I jumped right into a question without introducing myself. My name is Valorie, I live in Bat Cave NC. I retired 2 years ago. At that time, my goal was to give back to my community. I trained and received certifications for my 6 year old lab as a therapy dog. We visit assisted living facilities, hospice centers and have started a Reading Buddy program at a local elementary school. It was during this time when someone told me about 4 baby chicks that were abandoned. No water no food. My husband and I caught them and brought them home. Now due to chicken math, we have 20 birds. We ordered 7 RIR and 8 Barr Rocks(which are an 8 member comedy act). Retirement has been awesome! Thank you for letting me be part of this community.
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
Glad you joined.

Your retirement sounds eventful!
We are glad you joined our flock!
There are some enablers on here, (not mentioning names BC
), but I think 20 is a good number of chickens! I have 12 myself and have decided it's my perfect number.
