New Bill Threatens Aviculture & other Pets....

No one was fighting with anyone. (OK, I'll fight back some when people put words in my mouth and make me the issue due to my disagreeing with the original premise.)

Anytime someone asks me to take action against something, I require they demonstrate what exactly is spelled out, not what is imagined or feared. It is what anyone should do when they see similar "calls to action."

There are people who may see dangers in this bill based on their previous experience. Well and good, and debating is a pleasure. There are those who will follow without reading and it's hard to debate with them. Then there are those who will oppose any bill based on a simple distrust. Hard to debate with them also since facts are not part of the process. Finally there are those who oppose any bill based on a hatred of our government and those I have no use for.

End of my participation in this thread also.

What a great debate topic! No sex, graphic photos or predators. What more can you ask for? Keep on Keep'n On folks!

monarc - Did you read mine and seedcorn's previous posts? The invasive and destructive alien species we listed are just a small drop in the bucket of whats out there. This leglislation is needed. I read the entire link provided in the original post and I saw nothing threatening at all. There are exemptions to be provided for things like pheasants and DOGS and goats and other benign and helpful aimals and plants. Sometimes we don't know until its too late what is harmful. This bill will allow for some debate and study which is just what is needed.

!! ), I'm afraid that captive-wild Galliformes and Anseriformes are at risk due to this line: "(10) the likelihood that pathogenic species or parasitic species may accompany the species proposed for importation;". Most carriers found in the wild with H5N1 were Anseriformes.

I think what is scaring folks like me (and others who keep non-domestics, non-natives) is how vague the bill is written. The bill is directed at what, Zebra Mussels? Burmese Pythons? Monitors? Collared Doves? I wish it would state that from the beginning. Way too vague for me at this point.

I read yours and seedcorns previous post. And I for one Dont agree with you or him. This is not needed. Their is already laws on importing animals. Why cant they enforce those instead of adding another law? And when I see a list of animals that are effected or arent effected then maybe it wont be anything to worry about. But I will never assume that a bill is in the best interest of us when it leaves so much to be filled in later. And if you really belive that us the common people will have any say in the debates (after the bill is passed) then I have some ocean front property here in Tennessee, I will make you one heck of a deal on.
