I am getting my first flock of birds, 6 Rhode Island Red hens and 1 rooster. They are all about a year old and will be getting them from their breeder. We want to know if it would be better to get them during the day or at night? When is it the best time to get them, and should we release them in the pin or in their house? We want them to stay happy and trying to avoid scaring them. Any advice is greatly appreciated

I think a dusk release into the coop would be the way to go. That way it is dark so they aren't too freaked by their new surroundings and they all wake up together and can explore their new pen together. Just my two cents worth - they just seem to calm down in the dark.
