My #3 chicken in the pecking order has new bumps on her back. Can anyone tell me what these are? I’ve isolated the hen, and treated it with an anti microbial. I tried

calling/texting with the $5 vet but received NO reply. Any help would be appreciated b.

Any idea what caused all those feathers to go missing to begin with? It may be an injury That's healing up. What does the vent area look like, any signs of external parasites?

She was not injured, although the #1 & #2 pulled her tail feathers on the roost. After the molt, she just never got her feathers on top back. We have a dust bath for them, with diatomaceous earth, so I was not thinking parasites. They have at Will Valium and grit. They eat Purina Layena pellets.

Do you have a rooster in the flock? If so, methinks this hen is the favorite.

Oh!! And please fill me in on the $5 vet. That's pretty cool, wasnt aware of such a thing.

There are some feather shafts seen, so the others are probably picking her feathers as they come in. I would try to locate the preen gland on the lower back just above the tail, since that can become abscessed. There may be some ingrown feather cysts developing, or just some small pus filled bumps from pecking. Chickens who are overcrowded, bored, or not getting enough protein may peck each other. Do they get out to free range and are you feeding a balanced chicken feed?

Yes we feed a balanced feed. Yes they get out. There is no rooster. She never got her feathers on her back after the molt. Vet says it looks like skin cancer. Waiting for the pathology report.
