How old are they and what have they been eating? %protein... I've never worked at extending their lives beyond 8 weeks but have friends who have. Those who are successful start them on 18% for the first 3-4 weeks and then move them to a 16%. We all tend to use meal worms to get them to exercise. Toss a few out a ways away from them and they'll run to get the prize.

I have no idea how old they are, I took over for my neighbor just about 3 wks ago and she got them from a friend. 4 of them I can tell are around the same age and 1 hen is noticeably younger. I have been giving them scratch grains mixed with calcium and grit and also carrots, tomatoes, celery cut up every other day and I also give them mealworms as a treat every few days. They usually go out in the yard for about 2 hrs during the ev ed king time but during the day they like to stay in their coop laying in front of the fan I don't know how to find out protein levels on the scratch I use but it's 3 grain scratch?
