New to this. picked up "raising chickens for dummies". Got 18 chickens (5 weeks old) road island reds and laying hens from tractor supply in Elkton Maryland. Currently in my basement brooder. Coop (Chicken tractor) almost done. May have questions soon!!

Glad you joined us. And congratulations on you new flock.

I love that book. I also have the 2 other dummies books on chickens - on on gardening with free range chickens and the chicken health book, both are also great references.

Feel free to ask questions. Good luck on your new adventure.

thanks for all the replys! chickens are out in their coop as of yesterday. most of them didn't venture up the chicken stairs from the run. is this normal? I checked on them at 3am. it was cold out and they where all huddled together. also I have my first sick bird... noticed about a week ago- she seems to have trouble breathing, keeping balance, low activity, any ideas?
