My advise is to build, not buy a prefab coop. They are usually too small, too inconvenient, and poorly built.
Your initial investment will probably be more expensive than you want, but it is worth it in the long run.
Your climate is important for determining which breeds will work best for you.

Welcome to BYC! I would start reading through the threads and articles. Most of your questions will probably be answered already. You can use the Search Bar to find them. If you have any specific questions you can start your thread and the members here will happily help answer.

I would build a coop instead of buying. There are many coop plans available here on BYC in the articles. The Chicken Breeds list we have here can give you some info on the many different breeds. Best of luck getting started!
