I just picked up my chicks from the post office this morning. I just checked them and I have one austalorp that stands for a while then starts jumping and chirping while scratching violently at its head. Does anyone know if this is normal or what might cause this?
Thanks

Well, that chick died and one other since then. The hatchery thinks the chick may have had a birth defect (mentally). The other chick was acting lethargic and later died, now I have another and its acting the same. The hatchery told me to put a drop of honey on it's beak and that should perk it up a little, it seemed to help so we'll see.

Very probabaly your chicks have "travel stress". See the thread in this forum "Raising Chicks" titled
" How To Deal With Travel Stress In Baby Chicks" for help.
