I use disposable bed pads in the brooder. They make clean-up very easy.

And if you want friendly chickens, handle your babies often! I used to take them out of the brooder, lay down an old sheet, and sit and play with them for a few minutes a few times a day. You can even try some easy treats like lettuce or cucumber as long as you put some chick grit in their feed!
